Long Track World Cup- Men's 5k WR, Meet The Roller En Ligne Team, Remembering Greg Levien, IP Skate Tip- Winter Skating, KNSB & Essent Videos & Pics

Long Track World Cup- Men's 5k WR: The men's 5km mark was set on the 2nd day of racing action in the ISU long track world cup #2 in Calgary. Sven Kramer (Netherlands) downed the 5km world mark to 6:03.32, ahead of Italy's Enrico Fabris who also skated under the old record time of 6.07.40 which was held by Fabris- see the 5km results. You can find all the weekend's results here. Here is a play-by-play of the men's 5k. You can find more commentary thanks to SSWOM. One more article for you; Golden day for Wotherspoon and Nesbitt at speed skating World Cup.

There's a rivalry going on between the Salt Lake City Oval and the Calgary Oval- you can read up in Which rink is faster?.

Just in case you're looking for video feed from Calgary on NOS, there's a message which says (after being run through Babel Fish Translation 'Unfortunately us have given no authorisation to the international shoe association to transmit Calgary on Internet the pictures.'

Meet The Roller En Ligne Team: Seeing that I link to articles on Roller En Ligne on a fairly regular basis, you might be interested in seeing who is behind the website.

Remembering Greg Levien: Here's a video called Skatin' Place - Remembering Greg Levien. I'll copy some of the text that talks abotu Greg Levien; 'Greg Levien, one of San Francisco's best in-line skaters, died on Friday, May 1, 1992 in a hiking accident in San Francisco.

A former member of the Golden Gate Park Skate Patrol, Greg Levien had earned the reputation of being among the top inline skaters on a national level...Greg also won the overall championships in the Kryptonics California Championship Series two years in a row (1990, 1991) scoring over 450 points in 1991 in sprint racing, distance racing, high jump, long jump, and downhill slalom...

History will look back at Greg Levien as one of the true pioneers of our sport. His will to win, his enthusiasm, and fierce competitive spirit will live on the hearts and minds all the people who knew him...
