Ice World Cups, Fall Back Into Training, Link- Time Out Sport- Reeleezee, Arjen Becker, GI Joe

Ice World Cups: There's plenty of skating results for you to keep track of this weekend- you can see all the results (and live results while the races are taking place) from the 4th short track world cup taking place in Torino, Italy.

If you want to dig into the world cup long track #4 results from this weekend's races, click here (this *should* be the right link). The event is taking place in Kolomna, Russia.

Here's a preview of this weekend's Essent Cup taking place on Sunday. Henk Angenent starts in Essent Cup on Sunday.

Henk Angenent- photo from Skate Podium

Fall Back Into Training: Check out the reactions from the recent Fall Back Into Training With Renee Hildebrand. You can view photos here (skating) and here (beach_. Wish I could spend time on a beach. Then again, where I'm at isn't that bad, and there's beaches around here too. It's just not very warm right now.

Link- Time Out Sport- Reeleezee: The site Time Out Sport- Reeleezee is worth exploring. I can't read what's written there, but I can appreciate the photos.

Arjen Becker: Skate Podium has published an article on the outdoor skating scene and Arjen Becker. Check it out; Wachten op natuurijs: Arjen Becker.

GI Joe: I used to be obsessed with GI Joe when I was younger. I really really really wanted to have the aircraft carrier. Remember the aircraft carrier? It was like 6-feet long. One of my friends had one, and I always wanted to go play at his house. See video-

AM Wing, NROC Ideas, Crashes & Falls, 2008 WIC Updates, Ice in Copenhagen & Mexico City, PB's Training Pics

AM Wing: The article Am-Wing, Adams Inline Announce New Wheels is, well, self explanatory. I like this part; 'The wheel is designed for skating on asphalt, the most common outdoor surface in North America, and it is built to carry the weight of larger skaters'. What are they implying? Hehehe. It's kinda funny & cute...

NROC Ideas: The Inline Planet's National Roller Cup seems to be picking up steam- see NROC - Share Your Ideas for Race Series.

Crashes & Falls: I seem to have my site fixated on videos that feature crashes and falls- the video Crash Course cycles through long and short track falls over and over with different shots and perspectives. The fall in Gross Gerau Crashes '07! looks like it's gotta hurt! And then there's Tyler's Fall in Heerenveen- see him flip over the mats! Eek!

2008 WIC Updates: The thread World Cup Topics for 2008 keeps on pumping out information and news on the 2008 World Inline Cup as the new season approaches- Bill Begg writes 'Lets stop the Guessing games, these are the hot transfers, according to reliable sources, Luca Saggioratto to Rollerblade.

Elio Cuncu to Powerslide Alessi, along with Guyader, Francolini, Amabili & Galliazzo.

Luca Presti still without a team.

Rumours of a big Stadler team out of Germany.

Pier Davide Romanilooking for a team, what has happened to TNT.

Tomas Boucher been linked with both Zepto & World Inline center, many consider, the best of Tomas has yet to be seen, possibly suffering the fate of a fall guy, from previous seasons
'.

Ice in Copenhagen & Mexico City: Speedskating-online has a new section called Spot news. The latest addition is called Ice in Copenhagen.

There are very few words I can use to express my thoughts about this one; Speedskating on Ice in Mexcio City -this weekend. You can read more here. How cool is that?

Scooter's Practice Video, FIRS' Olympic Drive, World Inline Cup Expands, Skate Podium News, Revotech, Alexandra Ianculescu Article, Bike Crash Videos

Scooter's Practice Video: I've made a video from some of the footage that I shot at last Monday's Scooter's Indoor Speed Club practice- click here to view or press play below- I think that just the song alone is worth listening to; enjoy-

FIRS' Olympic Drive: The Federation Internationale de Roller Sports is making a drive towards Olympic inclusion. You can read FIRS' president's Sabatino Aracu's editorial here. He writes 'We want Roller sports in the Olympic Games, so here is the project 'ROLLER FOR OLYMPICS by FIRS': a new professional project, with a new unique logo and an increased staff in the FIRS Headquarters in Rome, with distinguished roles and responsibilities working on different activities according to planned deadlines.' and goes on to add 'as you can see, this is more than a project, this represents for us a real lifetime dream coming true. I trust in your total co-operation, as our dream can become true in Copenhagen 2009, and open us the doors to the 2016 Olympic Games'.

World Inline Cup Expands: I like this post by Alex Bont; WIC Expands- he says 'The WIC has just announced that they will have new events in Holland and Italy... FIRS and the WIC will team up to make joint proposals to the IOC in regards to including inline speed skating in the Olympics'.

Skate Podium News: More and more news coming from Skate Podium; see Het dilemma van Sandra 't Hart, read about FlevOnIce in Opening Flevonice over vijf dagen, and an interview with Christijn Groeneveld.

Revotech: Here's a link for you to explore around- Revotech.

Alexandra Ianculescu Article: The article Young skater bridges gap between old, new homes focuses on Alexandra Ianculescu- I like it because it bridges ice, inline, youth, experience, the past, and the future.

Alexandra Ianculescu in Calgary in 2005 while a candidate for Own The Podium

Bike Crash Videos: One of my good friends sent me this video from the 1991 TDF- 1991 Tour De France Abdu Crash!!- he suggested I wait for the overhead shot at the end of the video- and man oh man, it looked like a prett damn nasty crash.

Chances are that if you check out that video on YouTube, you'll see a link on the right box (related videos) called Tour de France BIG CRASH 9/7-2007. Ugh!

Roller En Ligne's How It's Made, Blog News, Spiderman Suit For Ed Leung, Greensboro Meet Results, ST World Cup On OhnoZone, Non-Skating Stuff, Oldies

Roller En Ligne's How It's Made: The series of following articles on Roller En Ligne have got to be some of the coolest and most interesting articles that I've read online; they describe how things are made- and you may need Babel Fish Translation because the articles are in French; see how wheels are made, how bearings are made, how frames are made, and how skates are made.

Blog News: Kwang Min (Kevin) Noh posted an entry about TISC's year end party called Lots Of Pizza~; Kevin writes 'I was starving to death. As soon as pizza arrived, I rushed the snack stand where the pizza were put on and had five pieces of pizza. It was so good. Hunger always stimulates good appetite. I would have had more pizza if there were more but I got some cookies which Travis brought instead'.

Michael Cole wrote in his blog about how he missed the year end party- see How to Blog when distracted- he writes '...last night at Scooters the Toronto Inline Skate Club had their annual awards ceremony and pizza party. I must admit I wish I could have been there, but as one might expect Peter (see Speed Skate World on the right) did his usual outstanding job documenting the event for all posterity...'.

Candy Wong skated the free-skate portion of last night's party on roller skates. This was her first time in years and years on roller skates, and she wrote about it in You Can Call Me 'Tumbles' (Hmm, May Be Not).

Here's an interesting blog for you; Speed Skater’s Blog. I'll quote the description; 'Welcome to my new blog that is going to basically be a journal of my attempt to make a speed skating comeback. My name is Ryan and I am 28 years old living in Greensboro, NC. I started skating for Piedmont when I was 14 years old and competed until I was 20...'. I am looking forward to seeing this blog come to life.

Spiderman Suit For Ed Leung: As far as I could tell, Ed Leung is a spiderman fan. I like spiderman too. It's funny because for Halloween at the school where I teach, there are many many spidermen. I suspect Ed will enjoy this thread (and perhaps add to his spidermen suit collection); JMC is offering SPIDERMAN SKIN SUIT !!!.

Greensboro Meet Results: Here are some results for you; see results for Greensboro meet?.

ST World Cup On OhnoZone: OhnoZone was all over the coverage of this past weekend's short track world cup #3- plenty of reports, results, photos, and background stories- see USA team practice, Thursday practice, Canadian team, day 1 (part 1), day 1 (part 2), day 1 (part 3), day 1 (part 4), day 2 (part 1), day 2 (part 2), day 2 (part 3), day 3 (part 1), and day 3 (part 2).

Non-Skating Stuff: I've heard about this mysterious movie called Cloverfield about 6 months ago- there is a bit more information out on the movie now, and I can't wait to see it. Here's a blog which has a bit more information on the movie.

Before going to bed last night, I was browsing through YouTube and found a couple of cycling videos- on that I thought was really cool (Lance Armstrong's 2003 short-cut- I remember watching it on tv!) and the other, well, I hope never happens to me in a skating race (Marcus Burghardt hitting a dog- the dog was ok...I think)- you can see both videos below-

Oldies: How about these photos from the 1980's- see uit de Oude Doos.

2007 TISC Year End Party & Scooter's Practice: The Toronto Inline Skating Club held its annual year-end party at the Scooter's Roller Palace. Videos- Short Track Falls & LT Rain: I highly suggest you watch the video Short track falls- not only is the music good, but the falls are awesome- and the're videos of racing in Calgary... ahh the crazy Canadian short trackers! You'll get to see lots and lots of falls as well as a couple of world records- thanks goodness for the crash pads!

The next video is sort of the opposite of the short track falls one; it's long track, outside & not inside, in the rain, and on a different continent- see Speed skating in Basega di Pine- good choice of song and love watching the long track racing in the rain.

Silver Strand Pics: Click here for a photo gallery full of very nice photos from the Silver Strand Marathon.

Presti Vs Zoe, Weekend Recap, Vancouver Update, Passion's Moment, Nicole Begg's New Car, Berlin Pics

Presti Vs Zoe: The video below of Presti Vs Zoe is an excellent example of how my cats get alone...it's a daily occurence... well, it usually happens at about 5am while I am trying to sleep... the orange cat (Presti) has grown a lot since I shot this video 1 year ago.

Weekend Recap: There was lots of racing action this weekend for us to follow- click here for all the results from the Cam Am long track race- note that Jordan Belchos won the 10k.

You can find results from the 3rd short track world cup here and here. Here's an article for you; All the Canadian men advance directly to quarterfinals at short track speed skating World Cup.

Passion's Moment: Passion On Wheels' Jacky Shu put up a short entry called Moment.

Nicole Begg's New Car: This is pretty cool; Nicole Begg gets a new car- click here for more.

Berlin Pics: I was surfing around the net yesterday checking out Gavin Pollock's blog- with a click here and a clikc there, I wound up on LondSkaters Speed Team's photos from the Berlin WIC.

I'll always remember Aaron Arndt's description of the first few km's of this year's Berlin WIC- he told about how lots of skaters stopped skating after a few km's and how slippery the course was... it's gotta suck to be that guy going down at the front of the group!

Roller Sports Canada held its Annual General Meeting earlier today in Toronto- click here for a few photos. I don't know how much information I can and can't make public here, but I think I could say that the meeting went well- it's a volunteer organization and it needs people helping and doing work. Alex Perrie- it was nice to see you and chat with you some. Same thing with you Annette Holman.

Winter Begins, Inline Planet's NROC, 2008 Calendar- WIC & SIC, Simmons Redesign, Hockey On Speedskates, Core XXX Test, Moscow Rink Troubles, Zen Event

Winter Begins: Today, Speed Skate World's staff woke to the sight of a fresh blanket of snow. The snow was greeted with frustration and anger by commuters and drivers, but was hailed as a welcome presence by teachers and school-children alike.

Outside of Speed Skate World's webmaster extraordinare Peter Doucet's home earlier today- his car door was frozen shut...

The onset of the cold and snow can mean only one thing here at SSW; the winter holidays are just around the corner. Whether you celebrate Eid, Kwanza, Diwali, Hanukah, Christmas, nothing, Halloween, Valentine's day, New Year's, Thanksgiving, or any other celebration, there are many opportunities, excuses, and reasons to donate and give.

One organization that I stand behind and I encourage people to support (other than this site...and keep your mouse ready to click when the 2008 June fundraising drive kicks off) is called Canadian Athletes Now Fund. There are many great people working to make this important fund bigger and better. You can give money or even donate stocks- and you'll get a tax receipt- and you'll know that you're supporting deserving athletes who really need help.

Inline Planet's NROC: The Inline Planet is launching the National Roller Cup (NROC)- click on New Race Series for 2008! for more information.

The skating community is starting to react to the news- see Bont's forum- Bill Begg writes 'A great idea, something the USA desperately needs to change the downwards spiral.

At present the big thing on offer is the transition to ice programme that has sold great numbers of your top skaters down the road to Ice, as there has been nothing prestigious on offer, from Rollersports.

Our sport is a big enough stand alone sport & should be properly promoted by administrators, not sold off for a pitance.

So lets hope this innititive starts giving some credibility back into the USA racing scene, other than just indoors
'.

You can read more information in Outdoor Race Series.

2008 Calendar- WIC & SIC: How about this for getting an early jump on the 2008 Swiss Inline Cup and World Inline Cup- 2008 calendar.

Simmons Redesign: Simmons' website has been revamped.

Hockey On Speedskates: Pattinaggio Bellusco has put up a photo album of what looks like fun; hockey on roller speed skates.

Photo from Pattinaggio Bellusco

Core XXX Test: Roller En Ligne has published a review of the Core XXX frames.

Moscow Rink Troubles: According to an article posted on Skate Podium, the long track world cup that was set to take place on December 1st and 2nd is cancelled because there has been some type of collapse of the rink... woah.

Zen Event: Zen And The Art Of Speed Skating is featuring an event in Race Announcement. Andrew Love says '...it will not happen unless SKATERS decide these are events are worth attending, & this kind of thing worth growing. So come on out & join us for some insanely good skating fun with the skate tribe'.
