Skating In Schools: Yesterday I linked up to the thread Skating as a school activity . I reread one of the entries and it contains some thoughts and ideas that I had a while ago; Racing Snake 71
writes '...What started out as one or two schools has now manifested itself into quite a few schools across the West Midland county and is now part of the curriculum in some facilities. As a result the Birmingham Wheels club membership has increased 10 fold in just over 12 months - and whilst many do it just for fun a large majority of these have turned to speed skating. The other bonus it has brought with it is that parents have also come on board in their droves and have pulled together to make the Birmingham Wheels facility as class in its own in the UK.

With so many new members the club was in obvious need of some equipment, especially as the areas initially concentrated on were inner city urban areas where personal funds were difficult to find. On the back of the success of the coaching in schools the Birmingham Wheels club secured an £8,000 lottery grant known as Awards For All and are now in a position to help its newest members with this much needed equipment...and I think I'm right in saying that Joe Yuen (Bont in Hong Kong) is helping us with this...
'.
