Canadian Olympic Medal Winners To Be Paid: This news item was well received in Canada and it was all over the national news; it was announced that starting in 2008, Canadian athletes who win medals at the Olympic games will be paid up to $20000. You can also find some news about on the men's 1000-meter race in which Simon Kuipers' 3rd place medal was later awarded to Shani Davis when '...referee Jim McClements announced that not Kuipers, but Davis and Kyou-Hyuk Lee had won the bronze in the 1000m, because Kuipers did not have both blades on the ice when crossing the finish line'.
