Upcoming Canada Races, News (Begg, Ziegler, Canada, Drugs, & Barry's Pics), Italian Championships, Other Going Ons This Weekend, Videos, Results, Link
Upcoming Canadian Races: This is one of my favourite topics; if you’re in the Toronto-ish area, then you’ve got the Trillium 10k going on tomorrow in Mount Forest. I’ll be there taking pictures. I’m not participating though because I am in preparation for the Pan Am Games trials next weekend. This brings us now to the weekend of May 19th 20th where you’ve got the RSO Outdoor Speed Championships/ Pan Am Game Trials in Harriston, Ontario.
We can skip over to July now because on the 1st, you’ve got the Canada Day Marathon (the event's got another name I think but I am too lazy to type/ find it). The RSO Speed Series dates are still in a bit of a jumble- there’s at least one of the dates/ cities that will be changed, so stay tuned!
News (Begg, Ziegler, Canada, Drugs, & Barry's Pics): No, these topics aren’t connected, they’re all separate, but how much space blogger allows me to put into the titles (what's written in bigger letter at the top just under the date) forces me to combine some of the topics or to be a little creative in my headlinning/ titleing. Ok, enough of this, let’s get on with it;
Bill Begg is the Inline Planet’s Ask The Coach person. I know Bill likes to prod and poke at me, but I still like the guy. He’s seen a lot, he knows a lot, and he’s not afraid to say what he wants to say. But I do love (wink wink) the picture that’s posted on the Inline Planet. Read this now because I am sure it will be deleted later; it looks like he’s got a rug (toupet) on his head! Hihihi. He’s rocking the comb-over!

Sigird Ziegler’s latest entry on her website is called On the Road again. At the end of her entry, she writes ‘To the Canadian Skating community: Those that have supported me/us, you have no idea how much this means to me. Support is hard to come by. Getting rid of a house and everything I own to come here has been one of the hardest things I’ve done. I don’t regret it, even though things are very hard here and I’m struggling to get better faster. There is a lot of criticism coming from Canada, so to those that have been there for me, Thank You. Without you I’d be lost here. It’s nice to know there are some skaters at home who wish me well :-)’.
The discussion in the RaceReports.net Forum called Drugs, doping, juice, performance enhancing is full of points and counter points- a lot more is being said- go check it out for yourself.
The next news item I want to tackle is what’s in the Canadian News section of Bont’s Forum; it’s about the proposed banked track in Vancouver; ‘Unfortunately we ran into some political opposition. We are being asked to re-apply for approval three years after being approved the first time. First Gross Gera and now this, a double whammy for Canada. Please send us your letters of support and help us build British Columbia's only dry-land skating facility’.
Finally, here are a couple of pictures of Barry Publow with Carl Verheijen (Olympic medalist, world all around champion, and former world record holder) and Sven Kramer (Olympic medalist, and current 5,000 and 10,000 m World record holder) in Mallorca, Spain.

Italian Championships: There are tid-bits slowly emerging from the Italian Championships- I’ll do a quick and dirty linking here: report on Rollerblade, report on PatinCarrera, report on Training & News, discussion board (campionati italiani pista jun/sen - Piacenza) on Pattinaggio-Corsa in Italian which features results.
Other Going Ons This Weekend: I usually get all messed up with time zone changes, so I am pretty sure I will miss it, but I will really really really try to watch the live broadcast of Rennes Sur Roulettes WIC tomorrow. I’m sure my computer will die on me, or the internet will stop, or my cats will get into a huge scrap out- something will prevent me from watching the race on the internet, and I am already pissed off at that! Ah well, comme on dit en francais, c’est la vie!
By the way, Roller En Ligne has a nice little write up (in French) on the 25th anniversary of Rennes Sur Roulettes. Included in the write up is the current WIC standings.

Videos: Feast your eyes on some of these videos; Crystal Springs Inline Marathon video (click here or press play below to view) and a couple of 2007 World Inline Cup videos (that you have to pay to view) that I haven’t linked up to yet: Basel WIC and Seoul WIC.
Results: Results from the Championnat Régional Route 2007 de Chateau Gontier (click for short and click for distance).
Link: I’m keeping it simple for you today; one link; SoDo Team.
Coming Today: Hey everyone- I will change this entry later today- I couldn't get to my house during lunch because a fire caused some streets in my neighbourhood to be closed off. I'll be posting stuff later today from the Italian Championships and I will also include some pictures of Barry Publow with speed skating elites! See you soon!

Hey thanks for the good luck wishes. A TON of work and preparation has went into getting ready for the trials. I just want to get out there and 'do it'.

If you can't be on your screen for the Rennes WIC race, just download CamStudio, so you'll be able to record the event and watch it later!
