Internet Archive- Wayback Machine: This has got to be one of my favourite links of all time; The Wayback Machine. You can enter a website’s url and see what the site used to look like at certain times. I tried my site (www.geocities.com/shaloheat) and I find myself giggling at what it used to look like.

What my site used to look like back in 2001

Olympic Hope For Roller Sports & Andrew Love’s Three Rings: This is something that I just love reading and sharing; Le roller à nouveau en lice vers l'olympisme (in English, it means that roller skating is once again striving to be included in the Olympics). In the link, you’ll find a letter in English by FIRS President Sebastiano Aracu.

Here’s a quote for you; ‘As concerns the recognition as Olympic Sport, Dr Kelly Fairweather, IOC Sports Director, presented, during the ARISF meeting in Bejing a description of the forthcoming bureaucratic steps required by the IOC and leading to the decision on the programme of the 2016 Olympic Games (IOC Session Copenhagen - October 2009). In 2008 FIRS shall be required to fill a new questionnaire detailing the numbers and distribution of rollersports in the world and the development of our world championships. The IOC shall examine all questionnaires and shall then determine which sports shall then be admitted to the final poll of the ! IOC Session for a possible inclusion in the Olympic Programme.

Our major chances are represented by the discipline of speed roller skating, and our next international events shall be followed up and organised in order to maximize the impact on media and public. We are all called to contribute to this success, from the top managers to the single athlete, giving our best and believe in ourselves, which is, in the end, our best quality
’.

This is pretty good stuff. Maybe one day, roller speed skaters will be able to lay claim to some Olympic rings that Andrew Love talks about on his website; see Three Rings.

Aaron Arndt’s Basel WIC Report: It’s up; click here for Aaron’s account of the Basel WIC- there’s a lot of good stuff in the report including a look inside the head of a WIC skater, talk about rivalries between teams, and technical analysis.

This is from Aaron's report; ‘...and I was the starter for the team. I would be the first pro out of the box for the start of the 2007 SIC. I knew the pace we had to skate and the rate at which to accelerate, I knew the lines to skate through the corners, and where to jump over small obstacles and curbs through the winding course. I knew where the hills were, and where the headwinds would be. I knew where the cobbles where, and where to avoid the worst sections of pavement. But there I was, first in the starting gate, jittery, and jumpy, talking last minute prep/pep chatter with my teammates...’.
