Basel Reports: A couple of reports have come out from the Basel WIC Team Time Trial; you can find one on Patin Carrera and you can find a good post/ analysis by Bill Begg on Bont’s Message Board. Let’s have a look at what Bill Begg writes: ‘Results are now known, so lets look at the factors involving the result, plus those who performed & those who did not live up to expectations.
/ The new supergrip MPC rain wheel, ended up having the roll to go with it, in the wet conditions.
/ The Strength of World Marathon record holder Roger Schneider Switzerland and his Athleticum team mate Scott Arlidge from New Zealand, who shared the last half of the race leading, to ensure that the young N.Z. 3rd man finisher, did just that.
/ The 2nd year that the big brother Rollerblade team, on paper the best team for this event, has had to be dissappointed, in finishing 2nd,with Big stars Shane Dobbin, Diego Rosero & Nicolas Iten. The Max Presti lead Bont Hyper team, would be content to grab 4th place,in an event not considered their forte.
/ The Kiwi factor, in the first 3 teams to finish in the mens of the 9 skaters 5 were from N.Z. Arlidge & Kay Athleticum, S. Dobbin Rollerblade, K.Dobbin & Micheal Powerslide, the 5th placed team World Inline center Spyrotiger Nation & Alchin, with Begg World Inline Center Bont in 9th placed team, running 6th, till Italian Conte fell on the last lap.
/ A very good placing for the Berlin based Citius team, a very late & new team to the WIC ranks, with Casu, Cunco & Wilking doing the Job.
/ The biggest dissapointment was Matter down in 8th place, the two Colombians Cifuentes & Garzon, being dropped early & playing little part in proceedings, which has left the fancied WIC contender Guyaders, chances way off the pace.
/ TNT did not get out of the blocks early & remained that way throughout the race for 12th, so Romani, another fancied contender, is left well back.
/ Two other solid teams on paper, who would expect to be in the top 10 Timmerman Powerslide & Zepto ended up 15th & 16th, well off the pace.
/ Bont Finland & Speedodrom were 18th & 19th in their first up Debuts, with all new WIC skaters.
/ A Big TV screen in the Inline Village, showed most of the time direct live footage of the race.
/ In the ladies race the well oiled Rollerblade Machine of Lardarni, Nueling, Llorens & Penan, kept together for the entire journey & thrashed their opponents, even having to slow down at times because of slower mens teams they were passing.
/Athleticum starting with 3 only, put in a very big effort for 2nd, with Gloor & Kuhn finishing with Stampfli lasting well into the race.
/ Allessi Powerslide & Ssangyong Jesa Bont could not make an impression on either of the first two teams, who were running on the new MPC wet weather wheel & were both left 3 mins behind Rollerblade & two behind Athleticum, WIC contender Nicole Begg, lossing two of her team early.
Zepto & Codus Motus fought out a close battle for 5th & 6th, with World Inline Center Powerslide 7th ahead of Schankel & Henniez who were only 10 seconds apart.
A great event but the party rained on by the weather’.
