Short Track World Cup (Montreal) Day 3 Video and Photos
Man oh man was I ever lucky to be there in the rink watching the fantastic action of the final day of the 4th world cup race of the short track season. I know that it's not inline or roller speed skating, but there are many connections between the frozen and the paved world. One of those connections came right in the 500-meter final; I was luck to be on the same 24-Hours Inline Montreal relay team last July with all three of the medalists; Olivier Jean, Francois Louis Tremblay, and Tysen Heung.
Watching the racing, skill, balance, power, technique, and agility, it was easy to appreciate the hard work that is put into getting the athletes at the highest possible level. As I've done in the last two days, I'll leave you with links (results, Ohno Zone, and some photos) and a video (access it here).
Some of the crowd on hand to watch the action
Ohno Zone's Noelle
Three Canadians and a German; that's the 500-meter final...oh, the German guy, he is Tysen Heung from Brampton, Ontario (Canada)
All in sync; Korea (Song, Kyung-Taek), USA (Jordan Malone), Korea(Ahn, Hyun-Soo), China (Sui, Baoku), and Canada (Marc-Andre Monette) in the 1500-meter final
Italy and Canada exchanging in the relay- Canada won the relay when, as it was written in Ohno Zone, 'I don't really know how there was no call in that race! 'I guess they decided Korea and China cancelled each other out'. And then Italy crashed out, and amazing Kalina Roberge had to jump over a fallen Chinese skater, avoiding disaster
China and Korea are down during the women's relay final
Short track action is tight- Russia's Pavel Rybakov leading the way with three skaters breathing down his neck
Skater down: China's Li, Haonan being cared for after being cut and breaking his ankle in a fall
