Eddy Matzger to Race Long Track in Placid?
I heard some rumours lately, some whisperings if you will, that Eddy Matzger will be competing in Lake Placid in MSI's Dimon Sports Marathon on December 16th and 17th. If the rumours end up being true, then how cool will that be?!
With all the attention inline skaters are receiving lately due to their strength and adaptability to compete and win on ice, it would be interesting to see what special things Eddy Matzger can do in the frozen world.
Eddy Matzger and I at this year's A2A
As for me, I don't know if I will be making it out to many long track races this year. Let's just say that money's an issue and also that the things (workouts) I have to do need to fit in my training plan this year.
Don't get me wrong; I am doing some kind of ice this year- I am doing short track. 'Ohhhh' you ask, 'How awesome is Peter in short track?'. Well, to make a long answer short, I will say this: Not very.

Eddy actually has quite an ice background, the legendary coach Diane Holumn (heiden's coach) worked with him on long track for a while, and she thought that if he dedicated himself to ice, he could be world class in the 10k...
He had raced (& won) ice marathons in Europe! and I am pretty sure he has raced in Lake Placid before...
I remember a speedskating times article (ages ago) about an ice marathon, where Eddy shows up in his car as the group is being called to the line..
he rushes out to the ice with a brand-new, never skated before pair of blades bolted to his inline boots.. and proceeds to be the annimator of the race and finished top 3..
only Eddy...

Andrew's right - Matzger been around the block a few times when it comes to long track marathons. When SST use to print tabloid format - I recall reading an article about him skating (and winning) marathons in europe wearing an all black (he called it stealth) suit.

It would be nice to see that Stealth suit on the MSI radar this season!
