G'Morning From Athens!
G'Morning From Athens!: As the title thingy says, good morning from Athens. I made the drive from my home to Athens, GA, surprisingly quickly- 13 1/2 hours, all this thanks to 6 or 7 other cars who led the way and were the ones who got nailed for speeding tickets as I kept my distance.
I never realized how beautiful Virginia is- the views, the drive, everything there is just stellar.
I made it into Athens and scored a hotel room with Eric Maas and his dad. Herb Gayle also crashed the room. My original plan was to pick up my race kit in Athens, drive to Atlanta, sleep in my car, and take the 5am bus to Athens for the start. I was able to sleep in the hotel thanks to Randy Bowman, who isn't skating- he'll be driving my car to Atlanta.
I am lucky because the hotel is something like 3 blocks from the start line! Yeah!
I spent some time last night with Aaron Arndt, Daniel McCalpin, and Dean Arndt- Aaron is primed! A lot of the discussion focused on how the drivers and support vehicles for skaters are probably going to get lost and confused. Eric Maas' father, Rudy, will be supporting Eric Maas- he had maps laid out in the hotel room and he feels confident he can find the check-points so he could meet his son and give him food...
I wish him best.
In fact, I wish everyone here in Athens the best, success, and non-sore feet/ bodies/ muscles/ backs after A2A.
Again, it's likely I won't have internet access until late tomorrow (Monday) night- and at that point I am fairly certain the only thing that will interest me is sleep. Until next time!
