2007-09-29 New York 100k By Michael W. Thomas of ShadowCatcher Ltd
After the 100k, many of us went out to the party in Manhattan. Seeing the skaters from France and from Colombia reminded me just how cool it is that people travel from far away to skate in the New York 100k. The New York 100k is a unique event. Like many events, it has its hard-core followers who refuse to miss the event.
I think that it's worth mentionning that having skaters from far away come to New York for the 100k is something that helps build a strong event and a great atmosphere for all, no matter where they are in the pack and no matter how long they take to finishing the 100k!
I know some skaters who have been skating for no more than 4 or 5 months who had a great time in the race (as well as before and after). Some of my friends had only been on race skates for 1 or 2 weeks before they did the 100k, and despite sore feet and legs, they had a blast! One of my friends even took off his race skates and put on his recreational skates for the 100k- he did very well.
Is the New York 100k for everyone? Some of the most animal-fast skaters in the world were there and they were cut down to size by the 100k. Some of the slowest most beginner skaters were there as well and were so happy to be finished.
You can read some people's thoughts in NYC Skake Marathon New York 100k- the words 'dont know about yall...but im a little sore today...but the 100k was one of the most fun races ive ever been' by FilaUsa07 are accurate; my legs are sore! But it was worth every stroke and every push. See you at next year's 100k on September 20th 2008.

So when all is said and done and the dust from the 2007 World Inline Cup has settled, the crowned WIC champions are not me, but instead they are Massimiliano Presti (men) and Laura Lardani (women), both from Italy. You can view some of the rankings here on Skate Podium. You can also see more points totals (team) in 2007 World Cup Skaters!? .
