Off To A2A & My Thoughts During The New York 100k

Off To A2A & My Thoughts During The New York 100k: Well SpeedSkateWorld fans, I am off to Athens to Atlanta to die. Well, I hope I don't die, but it's just A2A is so hard and tough and difficult and challenging and all those other words I don't feel like typing right now.

You want a tast of A2A? Check out the Inline Planet's A2A Survival Guide- Going the distance: Athens to Atlanta Road Skate written by none other than me! Hehehehe, it's good stuff!

You might recall that I placed 3rd overall at last year's A2A behind Mauro Guenci and Aaron Arndt. I wonder where I'll place this year. I wonder how I'll feel. I hope I don't get lost or that the pace motorbike doesn't take us the wrong way like it did last year. I wonder what I'll be thinking about. The following thoughts that ran through my head during last weekend's New York 100k might shed some light about what I will be thinking about on Sunday morning while I tackle the approximately 140km's that span Georgia's Athens and Atlanta.

I don't know when I'll be back online, so stay tuned for more! The Inline Planet's Robert Burnson will be calling me after the race and he should be putting some news up on his website.

I'll be driving back home from Atlanta on Monday and I expect the ride to take about 15 hours, so I'll try to put something on by Tuesday afternoon.

Peter's Thoughts During The New York 100k
-'Ok, it's the 2nd lap and my legs are already FUBAR, this isn't cool'
-'Why the hell am I doing this?'
-'I hope the whole pack falls'
-'Ok, I'm on a breakaway, maybe I'll win'
-'I should drop out'
-'Crap, I'm dropped. Hold on, keep skating, don't get lapped'
-'I hope those jerks in the lead pack fall'
-'Ooooo, that dude looks like he got mangled pretty good in the downhill, I hope that doesn't happen to me'
-'I love this race!'
-'I wonder how Morgan is doing'
-'I wonder if Ed (Leung) went the wrong way'
-'Friggen 100k, why am I doing this?'
-'I'm never doing this damn race again'
-'Why are these damn guys going bananas! Don't they realize it's a 100k race?'
-'Oh man, oh man, I don't wanna do that hill again'
-'I swear if they make me do an extra lap, I will crucify them'
-'Score! I'm back in the lead pack! Yes!'
-'Oh man, why are there dust clouds all over the place?'
-'What the hell? There's a horse on the course. Ok, I hope it doens't go crazy'
-'geez, this race is pretty cool'
-'I am so happy that I'm doing this, I think I can finish'
-'I have no legs'
-'I really wish that hill wasn't part of the race course'
-'Hmm, I should stop and crawl up the hill'
-'This sucks, those people have lawn chairs, why do they get to sit?!'
-'I hope the lead pack drops out'
-'Hmmmm'
-'I wonder if I can take a short cut'
-'I don't think I should do A2A'
-'I can't wait for A2A'
-'It would be so cool if I could hop on that horse'
-'Oh look at that, it's the hill, stupid-face Eddy Matzger is going to sprint up again'
-'Who is that dude in the red? He's a beast!'
-'Alright, concentrate, don't look at the horses'
-'What's that idiot doing?? MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!'
-'What? I'm done?! Friggen eh!!'
-'I can't wait for next year's 100k'

OMG Peter, that's hilarious. I was wondering yesterday how you felt during the NY 100K and then I saw your post!

Refreshingly and inspirationaly honest.

After the fact it's so easy for athletes to pretend they felt calm and in control the whole time, but it so rarely is the case, and only for a select few. I think its nice that people know that even top athletes feel that way and that they are just mere mortals like the rest of us. Keep up the good work. Good luck on A2A. Beat Aaron this time.

I'm still laughing hard enough for tears to run down my face...

I love the 'supid-face Matzger comment'

This is the funniest skate story I've read in a long time! Laughed until I cried. Please keep this easy-to-find on your site.
