Laval 10k, SPD, A2A & Ultra-Marathons, ZATAOS In Europe, 1 Hour Record Event, Ghizlane Samir Inteview, NIRA Rinks & $, Wheels 104, Links, Reports

Laval 10k: The 10km de l'Université Laval will be taking place on October 15th in Quebec City. Skaters who participate in this race will earn 500 points towards the Quebec Cup standings.

It's too bad for me becaue I can't attend this race. It's on the same weekend as the Northshore Inline Marathon...

SPD: ...and I'll be in Duluth for the NSIM. I will be using that weekend to also travel to Thunder Bay to visit my newphew, Sebastien Peter Doucet.

Thunder Bay is a city in northern Ontario, in the same province (state) as Toronto & Mississauga where I live. It's only a 3-hour drive north from Duluth. I'll have to drive about 1600km's to get to Thunder Bay. It's a long way from home, isn't it? But it's worth the drive to Duluth/ SPD.

Sebastien and his proud parents, my brother Olivier and partner Marlene were in town all the way from Thunder Bay this past week- I got to spend some quality time with Sebbie

A2A & Ultra-Marathons: One of my upcoming adventures will be at this year's Athens to Atlanta. I'll make sure I put up some good material on SSW, so stay tuned. In the mean-time, you can read about my adventure at last year's A2A and view my video- what an event; A2A made me suffer!

To avoid the suffering in an event like A2A, it would be a good idea to be prepared. The Inline Planet and Francisco Ramirez have teamed up to publish an article that could be very helpful; How to Prepare for an Ultra-marathon.

ZATAOS In Europe: Zen And The Art Of Speedskating- aka Andrew Love- is currently in Europe and providing the www with plenty of good reading material filled with inpirado, information, history, art, and of course great stories. Make sure you check out Museums/Pancakes in Friesland and EUROPE!!!.

1 Hour Record Event: The Record de l'heure à Muret (see the 3rd box down on the right side) will be taking place on October 7th. You can find all sorts of information (en Francais) here.

Ghizlane Samir Inteview: Click here for an interview with Ghizlane (in french) Samir posted on Roller En Ligne.

NIRA Rinks & $: You can double dip on topics in OK..... WHO'S READY FOR NIRA NATIONALS?????; on one hand there's some talk about how the NIRA Nationals went, and on the other hand, there's some talk about the money behind the event and rinks.

And how's this for racing action in the dash for cash; Jim White writes 'Carter did win $500 in the Dash for Cash, then gave some of it to other skaters as prems for the leaders of certain laps in the points and elimination races. But the award for best technique in the Dash for Cash went to Justin Stelly, who was going very fast, then spun out on the last corner and crossed the finish line going backwards, yet with one of the better times.'. Click here for some more NIRA reports and commentary. Plenty for you to read!

'Xion Akana, Emily Barker, and Zephaneah Akana, the Junior 3 Lady team that lapped the winning Senior 3 Lady'- posted by Jim White

Wheels 104: The thread 104mm Wheels. Whats the point? contains some background information on wheels/ wheel size.

Links: The Esthetic of Lostness and Chauvin Arnoux with lots and lots of nice WIC pictures.

Reports: Cado Motus has a report on the Beneden-Leeuwen 50km. Click here for results.
