SSW Fundraising Drive Day #6, Canadian Outdoor Nats Day 1, Garikoitz Lerga, SkatePodium (Mirror, Video, & Report), Ottawa Inline Skating Festival

SSW Fundraising Drive Day #6: My friends, there is only one day left in the SSW Fundraising Drive. As I focus on the current Canadian championships that I am in the middle of competing in, and as I also look & plan into the future, it's safe to say that I will have a fundraising drive once again next year.

The total $ that came in yesterday (Friday) is $20 which brings the total $ collected so far at $428.98.

I really appreciate all the donations that I have received during this fundraising drive. With one more day, I hope there's a surge in donations. Having secure finances just really helps me focus on the task at hand as an athlete- to train, to be ready to perform, and to actually perform at my best. Every dollar that has been donated is helping me focus- it takes a lot of stress away so that I can concentrate and put my energies into performing.

This also gives me better things to write about on SSW. It really does. And I think that maybe you like to read about my success? Or maybe you just want me to try my best and be honest about why I have succeeded and/ or how/ where I fell short.

Canadian Outdoor Nats Day 1: The Canadian Championships are taking place this weekend in Ottawa- I write a bit about the action that took place today (Saturday) but I'll keep it short- I need to get to bed. I will let you browse all my pictures (164 photos). Enjoy them.

2007-07-07 Ottawa RSC Canadian Championships Day 1 (only 50 of the 164 photos are in the above slideshow)

- The track has long straights with tight corners
- Some of day 2's program was skated today because the forecast is calling for rain
- Many of today's races were contested in spitting rain conditions so there quite a few rain delays. As I write this, I can hear the rain coming down!
- Two divisions saw skaters set records- I think it was grand master women and primary girls. If I am wrong, please leave me a message
- I won 3 of my 4 races (1000-meter was a hawk with Camilo Echeverri)
- JF Messier (Ottawa) won the 300-meter sprint sr wc men
- I am pretty sure Martine Charonneau won all of today's senior wc women's races
- Senior wc women is competitive with Martine Charbonneau, Sarah Hopkins, Morgane Echardour, and Dominique Lalonde providing tight racing in the distances, and Annick Forgues getting in the mix in the sprints.
- Junior wc men; Jesse Pauley is being challenged by Alex D'mello and Pauley is finishing ahead
- Allain Lecay had a pretty nasty crash- he's ok, but he's out of the competition

Garikoitz Lerga: Spain's Garikoitz Lerga's name has been caught up in some doping discussions (see Another Positive outed ? and Spanish flies: what's going on?)- I was sent this file which you can run through translation software; click here for the file.

SkatePodium (Mirror, Video, & Report): SkatePodium has posted an article that I have no idea what it is about, but it does have a really cool picture of skater skating behind a mirror.

You can also view a beautiful video that was linked in the article. It's of Diego Rosero and Shane Dobbin skating.

SkatePodium is the site for a report on the Hoogeveen WOW. As usual, you can find a full break-down of the results (at the bottom) thanks to Skate Bond Nederland.

Ottawa Inline Skating Festival: The Ottawa Inline Skating Festival will take place on September 2nd. I am pretty sure that I'll be there. Maybe you will be as well? Register online before my birthday (August 26th) and you get a t-shirt.
