SSW’s Guide To Skating In The Snow, FIRS Website, LT World Cup In Calgary, A Few Pictures From My Phone, Strathcona Park Oval Update
SSW’s Guide To Skating In The Snow: I hope you don’t take my latest video seriously. I was out for a skate yesterday on the dry roads right before it started snowing. Once the snow started coming down and I struggled back home, I decided to make the video below- press play or click here.
The driving (and skating) conditions were atrocious about 2 hours after I finished skating- school buses were cancelled, cars smashed into one another, and I went to the gym to work out
FIRS Website: The FIRS website is getting some more recognition; probably a few months ago, I linked up to the site and noted how it has been redesigned. Bill Begg wrote about the website on Bont’s Message Board, saying ‘The more hits, the better the site, FIRS needs the skaters support, so in turn they can put more pressure on to make our skaters dreams come true, with the Olympic acceptance’.
LT World Cup In Calgary: I’ve been getting MSN messages from Tristan Loy who is in Calgary, and this is why: The Long Track World Cup is taking place this weekend there- click here for the race site and you can follow the results as they happen as long as you click here.

A Few Pictures From My Phone: I love how the pictures that are taken with cell phones are of higher qualify now. Here are a few that I had sitting in my phone-
As soon as I saw this book in my school's library, I had to check it out- My Teacher's Secret Life- I don't keep my skating career a 'secret' that I don't share with my student
I probably posted this picture a long time ago; it's from the men's washroom at the Scooter's Roller Palace- every time we have a practice there, I see that sign, and it's been there for years. I think you can see the parameciums, ameobas, and other creatures on the hand

The inline skating chicken from St Hubert's restaurant in Montreal- on St Hubert street- this is the origninal, the first St Huberts! Mmmm mmmm.
Strathcona Park Oval Update: Way below, after the text, are a few pictures of the current site where the Strathcona Park Oval is to be built. Some information has been posted on Bont’s Message Board about the plans- currently it is an old go-cart track and people use it for jogging, but now, ‘A new 200m track is planned for Vancouver British Columbia Canada…The project is being directed by the Vancouver Torrent, a Speed Skating club committed to promoting and enjoying the sport of speed skating and fitness skating in Vancouver. The project consists of removing the existing asphalt, installing a root barrier for cotton wood trees surrounding the track, repaving and landscaping. The parks board quote for the project is $80,000. The cost of this track is the same as a brand new fully loaded GM Hummer. 1 Hummer = 1 200m track. $10,000 will come from a Parks Board matching fund program with the balance to be raised from corporation and private donations. It is hoped that with this track Vancouver will host the Canadian National lnline Speed Skating Championships, possibly to coincide with the 2010 Winter Olympics. This project will foster the growth and development of skating in Greater Vancouver by providing a venue for training and racing competitions…The Torrent is very enthusiastic about the opportunities that a world-class facility like this would provide. Once the track is built teaching programs can be created to attract recreational skaters and develop speed skaters. Roller sports continue to be easy to learn and are enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds. Ice speed athletes can now make an easy transition to wheels and take advantage of cross-training activities in the summer months. It's fun, healthy, social and rewarding. If you are unable to support this project financially, please email the Vancouver Torrent with your letters of support’.
