Bont News, One Week Left For Design Canada!, Boy Skates Under Cars, Ice Marathon News, More WIC Updates, Road Rash Chronicles- First 2008 Event

Bont News: In the thread When will the 2008 U.S Bont team be announced?, Glenn Koshi named Bont '08 skaters and added 'As you can see, we have a different philosophy in running this team... I like to give not only young skaters, but also those in the, ahem, more mature catagories, rewards, too... these are the guys and gals that help me out in booths, and I could not make it alone at some of these bigger events... Most of these skaters above have given up more lucrative offers from other companies to stay here, and for this, I owe my sincere gratitude'.

These are the skaters that will be on the 2008 Bont North American Team; Bobby Piedra, Bryan Kubota, Conny Strub, Debbie Rice, Ed Wachter, Grant Foster, Helen Havam, Jake Sawyer, Jilleanne Rookard, Jono Gorman, Mechele Busby, Mike Anderson, Patrick Naylor, Penny Wright, Randy Plett, Ryan Leveille, and Roger Olson.

And now here is Bont's Semi Race Black/White-

One Week Left For Design Canada!: That's right; One Week Left For Design Canada!- Sergio Almeralla says 'There is only about a week left for the Design Canada competition, so get your designs in to design_canada at ilpeloton dot com by January 14th or you will miss your chance to be famous!'. See Design Canada, Skin Suit Template, and Contest Rules for more information.

Boy Skates Under Cars: This is not something that I would do. I would probably get stuck; Boy Skates Under Cars.

Ice Marathon News: The thread ICE MARATHON NEWS 2007 / 2008 helps to give us some perspective on the ice marathon racing world- recent posts and entries mention Alexis Contin who is rumoured to be leaving long track and returning to inline track racing.

In talking about ice and roller, Van Dietsen bloed writes 'I think one of the big problems in Holland is that a lot of ice trainers still look at inline as a disturbance and sometimes 'potential danger' for longtrack ice skating. In that way lot of inline sportsman who choose for the longtrack have to 'give up' inline and switch training. My meaning is that the last years a lot of them were thrown back in their results'.

More WIC Updates: This is to alert you of another post of interest by Bill Begg in World Cup Topics for 2008 , this one concerning the women's racers. Skaters out on the prowl for a WIC gig are facing a ' situation is still up in the air, it depends if Schankel continue with a ladies team. then Anne Claire Maillard & Livia Meier are likely to have a team. Skaters looking for a team include Ghizlane Samir, Chilean Marecella Caceres, Britta Van Tournhout, Susanne van Praet, Matina Taruscia, and Linda Shellkins.

Road Rash Chronicles- First 2008 Event: Road Rash Chronicles's most recent entry is called First Event of 2008 - Will you be ready! talks about the Minto Run For Reach- Canada's first outdoor race of the 2008 season.

The part of the entry that caught my eye was the special note out to the Toronto skaters; 'skaters from Toronto may be granted a head start this year. Since 20 of the top 30 skaters from last year were from Ottawa, it is quite clear that the Toronto team need the handicap this time around. Us friendly Ottawa skaters will have no problem giving them that little boost. ;)

Some members of the OISC might be able to host out of town skaters. I am not making any promises but it could be an option. Look for updates here on Road Rash in the months to come
'.

Hmm. I think that in a Toronto vs. Ottawa hockey game, as much as I am a Leaf fan, I still think the Ottawa Sentors win. But in the roller speed skating world, I think Toronto trumps Ottawa by 5 minutes, 13 placements, and 5 hawks. ;)
